The news comes from Polish news site Stooq (via Eurogamer), where Kicinski also said it’s not going to be called The Witcher 4.
It’s an announcement that probably won’t surprise many.
The Witcher 3 was one of the best-selling, top-rated games of this generation, and Netflix’s ongoing The Witcher adaptation saw player numbers skyrocket on Steam once again.
According to Kicinski, the team already has a clear development concept that’s just waiting right now. Further development will begin “immediately” after work on Cyberpunk 2077 finishes, which saw a five-month delay that pushes its launch date back to September
Kicinski mentioned CDPR’s goal is to alternate releases with its two main properties, Witcher and Cyberpunk, which means we’ll hopefully be seeing a lot more of both franchises in the coming years.
It goes without saying the new Witcher game would more than likely release on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Though it’s possible backwards compatibility on next-gen systems will allow for a cross-generation release, predicated on the development time of the new game and the lifecycle of current-gen platforms.
